What does HIGHLANDER stand for?

HIGHLANDER stands for nature preservation and active lifestyle. We want to educate all our participants on the importance of safe-keeping nature for future generations and the importance of an active lifestyle for physical and mental well-being. We intend to become a 100% Green event by 2025. Leave No Trace philosophy is woven into HIGHLANDER's DNA, so all events are organized not only for our participants to enjoy nature but to also understand how they can contribute to nature preservation and protection.

What is the difference between event formats?

HIGHLANDERs can choose from 3 formats that differ in duration.

HIGHLANDER Hercules got its name after the Roman mythological hero adapted from the Greek hero Heracles. It is also the second-largest northern constellation and is simultaneously the longest HIGHLANDER route that spans over 5 days.

The second-largest format is named after a constellation in the northern sky, named after the winged horse Pegasus in Greek mythology. It is easily recognizable because it is dominated by a prominent asterism known as the Great Square. HIGHLANDER Pegasus takes you on a 3-day hiking journey.

Orion is a prominent constellation located on the celestial equator and visible throughout the world. It is one of the most conspicuous and recognizable constellations in the night sky and is the perfect constellation to represent the shortest format - HIGHLANDER Orion - that takes place during the weekend.

Depending on the country, there might be only one or two available formats.

What is the easiest and the hardest HIGHLANDER event?

If you go to the ADVENTURES tab and click on Calendar, you will see trail grading for each event. But remember, sometimes the hardest climb takes you to the most amazing views and brings you the biggest Adventure of a Lifetime.

Do I have to have mountain trekking experience and be in good shape?

HIGHLANDER is not easy, but with the proper preparation, and planning, anyone can do it. You need to be comfortable to spend multiple days in nature.

How should I prepare?

If you are not an experienced hiker, start with walks on easier terrain and build up to overnight trips and more challenging terrain. Preparation depends from event to event. All routes are different, and that is the beauty of HIGHLANDER.

What equipment do I need?

Equipment recommendations can differ from event to event because of terrain and weather conditions. But a backpack, tent, sleeping system, stove, compass, first aid kit, torch, and appropriate clothing are some of the staples.

Can I hike with friends?

Definitely. Invite your friends along to hike with you, or do it solo if that’s more your thing. Some HIGHLANDER events even have 3+1 team registrations, so you can save together.

I cannot participate this year. Can I transfer my registration to another HIGHLANDER event or next season?

Every event has its Terms of Service. Please check under INFORMATION > TERMS OF SERVICE of each HIGHLANDER event.

Does HIGHLANDER have merchandise?

Yes. We produce and sell HIGHLANDER branded merchandise in our official webshop and at our events. The T-shirts and hoodies are made from 100% organic cotton or 100% Merino wool. We also offer hiking gear like dry bags and pots. In the future, we will offer various lightweight products to improve the experience of long-distance hiking for our participants/customers.

What is the HIGHLANDER Club?

HIGHLANDER Club is a tiered program offering special perks. Membership with special perks is valid from 01.01.2024 and it does not have an expiration date. The membership starts with the first purchased registration for one of the 2024 HIGHLANDER Adventure events (all formats included) after completing an application form, accepting enrolment in the HIGHLANDER Club, and accepting its Terms and Conditions.
