To be able to enjoy our trail, getting in shape prior to the event is strongly advised. We recommend 50-100 km of hiking in the months leading to the event.

Svaneti in July is experiencing low temperatures as 13°C and high of 25°C. There's going to be many days of rain during the month of July in Svaneti. Svaneti should expect an average of 15 to 22 days of rain, so be sure to bring along a waterproof jacket to stay dry this month!

BACKPACK

The backpack you will be carrying will likely be heavy.

Practice with a 5-7 kg and increase gradually to 15-17 kg. Make sure you can walk in your hiking shoes and break them in prior to the event. The gear you will be packing for HIGHLANDER must be tested beforehand for full functionality.

Look into ultralight backpacking and thru-hiking methods of walking and packing. Bring only the indispensable items in your backpack and do away with the rest. Choose natural materials wherever possible. Merino wool is great (especially for underwear) for its quick-drying, anti-fungal and anti-odor properties.

A fully packed backpack, excluding food and water, should not weigh over 17 kilograms. The lighter, the better!

IMPORTANT THINGS TO KNOW WHEN ON THE MOUNTAIN

Weather

Expect fickle and changeable weather. Bring both dry weather and rain clothing, including a cap or hat, gloves, cold-weather long-sleeve t-shirt (preferably wool), hiking trousers as well as rain trousers and a rain jacket.

Food

For reheating food, you will need LPG or alcohol/gasoline.

Navigation

To find your way around, you are required to know how to read maps (to be provided by Organizer) and use a compass.

Safety

For your safety, all participants must be packing a first aid kit.

Littering

We believe our participants love and cherish nature and all its beauties. We know you wouldn’t litter, so the organiser will provide a waste bag.

Littering on and around trails, checkpoints, and mountain lodges is forbidden. Litterers will be disqualified and banned from applying to any future HIGHLANDER events.
