HIGHLANDER Italy Val di Sole offers meat and vegan options. Meals are distributed at the start and in each campsite.
The provided camping food is suitable for the average daily needs of an average adult: cooked meals, hiking food, ready-to-eat food, and easy-to-prepare items such as canned goods, cheese, cold cuts, and bread. You can choose between a meat-based or vegan diet. Your dietary preference is selected during registration.
Participants may use their own snacks and extra food (as needed). It is recommended to bring some of your favorite snacks, dried fruit, and similar foods in addition to the meals provided by the organizer.
*Additional detailed information regarding the provided camping food will be given in due time.
07
WATER
You must carry your water at the start (minimum 4L / 1 gallon).
It is important to stay hydrated, so make sure you always have enough water with you. We will check the amount of water at the start and before leaving the camp each morning. Four liters is the minimum amount you must start with.
Drinking water will be provided in sufficient quantities at each campsite. Where possible, we will provide additional water points between checkpoints where you can refill and stay hydrated.
We will not provide a means to carry it, so bring your own bottles or reservoirs.
Mountain water is NOT safe to drink; therefore, you must use water purification methods (tablets/drops/filter).
08

Participants choose their bivouac spot within the campsite.
Choose a location on a hard and dry surface such as rock, sand, gravel, or pine needle litter, meadows.
Sleeping arrangements may include only the equipment listed in the Backpack Checklist: tent, tarp, sleeping bag, bivy.
Fires are prohibited.
It is FORBIDDEN to lodge, cook, or borrow equipment from mountain huts or shelters.
09
TIME LIMITS
HIGHLANDER is not a race, but it does have a time limit.
All participants who collect all the stamps and reach the finish line before closing will receive their HIGHLANDER badge, patch, and certificate.
10
FIRE
OPEN FIRES ARE NOT ALLOWED IN THE FOREST
Always be aware and alert to the risk of fire.
It is not permitted to light fires along the trail or between campsites. Fires are allowed only in the fire pits set up and supervised by the organization.
Never leave a flame unattended nor fall asleep while the flame is still burning. All fires must be properly extinguished.
Propane stoves are allowed. Use them with extreme caution.
11
WASTE AND GARBAGE
Trash bins will be placed in the campsites. Littering is strictly prohibited and will result in immediate disqualification.
Participants may use (if available) the toilets located at checkpoints, huts, etc.
In nature, feces must be buried at least 15 cm deep and 60 meters away from campsites, water sources, buildings, and hiking trails. Use toilet paper sparingly and carry it out with you. A plastic bag effectively contains odors, and double-bagging prevents accidental contamination.
Ethics and good manners in the nature of Val di Sole.
12
DOGS
This is a dog-friendly event, but dogs must be kept on a leash. You must bring your dog’s food with you.
$0NO EXTRA REGISTRATION FEE REQUIRED.
Dogs must remain on a leash at all times, both along the hiking trail and within the camping areas.
Dogs must be taken outside the camping areas for their needs, and their waste must be collected and disposed of properly.
Dogs are not allowed inside buildings, including restrooms and dining halls.
PLEASE NOTE: check your dog’s health and physical readiness, pay attention to temperatures, and ensure it is well acclimated and warm enough at night if necessary. Make sure your dog stays well hydrated. You will likely need to carry 1.5–2 times the amount of water you would normally carry for yourself alone. As a general guideline, plan up to 2 liters of water every 1–2 hours, to be shared between you and your dog, adjusting the amount based on the dog’s size, trail difficulty, and heat intensity.
