We recommend doing hikes with your backpack for about 7 hours during the months leading up to the event. While training physically, don’t forget to test your equipment as well.
The climate of Val di Sole is continental, with temperatures that vary significantly between day and night. During summer, temperatures can reach 30°C, while in winter they can drop to -20°C. The valley is located between the Dolomites and offers natural scenery that changes throughout the seasons, making the weather an important element for anyone exploring this beautiful area.
Since the event will be held shortly before the beginning of summer, we can expect some precipitation and generally sunny or partly cloudy days. Average daytime temperatures range between 24°C and 16°C, while average nighttime temperatures range between 9°C and 13°C.

Highlander travel informations

WEATHER

Variable conditions are expected, with moderate humidity and colder nights. You should bring clothing suitable for both rain and fair weather, including a wool hat or cap, gloves, a long-sleeve shirt for cold temperatures (preferably wool), trekking pants, rain pants, and a waterproof jacket.

FOOD

To cook your meals, you will need an ultralight backpacking canister stove and at least a 1L pot per person.
If you do not have isobutane fuel canisters, you can rent them during registration and they will be provided by HIGHLANDER.IT.

NAVIGATION

To navigate, you must know how to read GPX maps and use a compass, as well as a GPS navigation tool that you can use along with the compass.
For HIGHLANDER 3DAY and 2DAY, a special physical map will be provided by the Organizer.

SAFETY

For your safety, all participants must carry a first aid kit during our events. We recommend paying attention to any unattended odors, especially in night camps.

OUR ETHICS

We believe our participants love and appreciate nature and all its beauty.
We know you would not litter, so please use the trash bag provided by the organization.
Littering along and around trails, checkpoints, and campsites is prohibited. Anyone caught littering will be disqualified and banned from all future HIGHLANDER events.

DOGS

Dogs are welcome but must always remain on a leash. Check the Rules for more information.

TRAVEL AND ACCOMMODATION

ARRIVING BY PLANE

If you choose to fly, you can rely on several airports in provinces near Trentino, from which Val di Sole can be reached via highways or the rail network.

The closest airports to Val di Sole:

  • Bolzano “Dolomiti” (80 km)
  • Verona “Valerio Catullo” (150 km)
  • Brescia “Montichiari” (180 km)
  • Bergamo “Orio al Serio” (230 km)
  • Milan “Linate” (260 km)
  • Venice “Marco Polo” (270 km)
  • Milan “Malpensa” (320 km)


ARRIVING BY CAR

Arriving by car is the easiest way to reach the even.

  • From Brennero or Verona: exit the A22 highway at San Michele all’Adige (50 km), take State Road 43 (Val di Non) and then State Road 42 (Tonale). Follow signs for Passo del Tonale.
  • From the North-West (Milan – Turin): reach Ossana via Passo del Tonale. Take the A4 motorway to Seriate (170 km), exit and follow signs for Passo del Tonale. After crossing the pass, descend into the valley to reach us.
  • From Brescia: reach Ossana via Tione di Trento (50 km), Madonna di Campiglio (20 km), Folgarida (8 km), Dimaro (4 km).
  • From Merano: via Passo delle Palade (80 km).
  • From Bolzano: via Passo della Mendola (75 km).
