Don't be fooled HIGHLANDER is NOT comfy walk in the park!

Temperatures up to 25°C

Be prepared because it will affect your hiking experience on the HIGHLANDER to be bad or fantastic!

To be able to enjoy the track, we recommend conditioning before the event. (We recommend 200 km of hiking in total in the months leading up to the event). The functionality of the equipment you will wear on the HIGHLANDER must be checked beforehand.

On Fruška Gora there is a so-called forest climate, which is characterized by high humidity and low ventilation. Bring suitable and durable hiking clothes that you can wear in layers if necessary. Don't underestimate Fruška Gora.

Note - The packing list for HIGHLANDER 2DAY and HIGHLANDER 1DAY are different.

BACKPACK

The backpack you will be carrying will likely be heavy. Practice with a 5-7 kg and increase gradually to 15-17 kg.

Make sure you can walk comfortably in your hiking shoes. Don't wear a brand new shoes - walk at least 10km in a brand new shoes (they also need to have some kilometres just like you) before the HIGHLANDER event.

Look into ultralight backpacking and thru-hiking methods of walking and packing. Bring only the indispensable items in your backpack and choose natural materials wherever possible.

A fully packed backpack, excluding food and water, should not weigh over 17 kg (10 kg for Lyra). The lighter, the better!

Follow all recommendations that are available through social networks HIGHLANDER Serbia.

IMPORTANT THINGS TO KNOW WHEN ON THE MOUNTAIN

Weather

Expect changeable weather with a high chance of rain.

Clothing and shoes

Bring clothes for dry and rainy weather, a cap or hat, gloves, a long-sleeved shirt for cold weather (wool is best), long trousers as well as trousers and a jacket with a waterproof outer layer to protect you from the wind and rain. As for the material, we recommend merino wool, which is excellent for its characteristics (especially for underwear). Footwear must be tried on and worn before arriving at the HIGHLANDER itself. We recommend bringing a spare pair of sneakers or slippers, during the periods of your stay in the camp, to relieve the pressure on your feet, which are under strain all day long.

Food

For reheating food, you will need LPG or alcohol/gasoline.

To prepare food, you need to carry a burner and gas, as well as dishes. It is important to think about food preparation and adapt your eating habits to a stay in nature that takes place for several days.

Camping

Certain equipment is necessary for sleeping and preparing food. It is necessary to have a tent, a waterproof wing or a bivouac bag, a sleeping bag in order to have a real hiking experience. We recommend you to measure the weight of each individual item that is carried in a backpack for camping purposes.

Navigation

In order to navigate the trail, you must be able to read a map (provided by the organizer) and a compass. To find your way around, you must know how to read gpx maps and use a compass. For HIGHLANDER 2DAY (Orion) format a special physical map will be provided by the Organizer.

Safety

For your safety, all participants must bring a first aid kit.

Accessories

A few days in nature without the possibility of using electricity means that it is necessary to think about external batteries, which are needed to charge all smart devices, which the participants of the HIGHLANDER event rely on.

Littering

We believe our participants love and cherish nature and all its beauty. We know you wouldn’t litter, so please bring a waste bag for your litter.

Littering on and around trails, checkpoints, and mountain lodges are forbidden. Litterers will be disqualified and banned from applying to any future HIGHLANDER events.

Dogs

Dogs are welcome but must always stay on a leash. See the Rules for more info.
