Enjoy HIGHLANDER to the fullest get ready for Adventure of a Lifetime!

We recommend that you train by hiking approximately 125 miles (about 201 kilometers) in the months leading up to the event. While preparing your physical fitness, don’t forget to test your equipment.

The weather in Beijing in May is usually very comfortable. It is a transitional period from spring to early summer and one of the best times of the year for travel and hiking. The temperatures are pleasantly warm during the day and cooler at night, with an average range of 15°C to 26°C. For the latest weather information, it is recommended to check the Beijing weather forecast.

BACKPACK

The backpack you will be carrying will likely be heavy. Practice with 11-15 lbs and increase gradually to 33-37 lbs. For HIGHLANDER 1DAY format, we suggest a maximum of 20 lbs.

IMPORTANT THINGS TO KNOW WHEN ON THE MOUNTAIN

Weather

Expect dry and sunny weather with low humidity and colder nights.

Even the rain is unlikely you should bring rain and dry weather clothing, including a cap or a hat, gloves, cold-weather long-sleeve t-shirt (preferably wool), hiking pants, rain pants, and a rain jacket.

Food

For cooking food, you will need an ultralight backpacking canister stove and at least a 1L pot per person. Isobutane fuel canisters for cooking meals will be provided by HIGHLANDER.

Navigation

To find your way around, you must know how to read gpx maps and use a compass  as well as a GPS navigation tool that you may use alongside the compass.

For HIGHLANDER 5DAY, HIGHLANDER 3DAY, and HIGHLANDER 2DAY a special physical map will be provided by the Organizer.

Safety

For your safety, all participants must have a first aid kit during our events. While bear spray and bear canisters are not required, you should be aware of any scents left unattended, especially in camp overnight.

Littering

We believe our participants love and cherish nature and all its beauty. We know you wouldn’t litter, so please carry the waste bag provided by the organization.

Littering on and around trails, checkpoints, and campgrounds is forbidden. Litterers will be disqualified and banned from applying to any future HIGHLANDER events.

Dogs

No animals allowed.

Travel and Accommodation

ARRIVING BY PLANE

Beijing Capital Airport: Take the Capital Airport Express from Terminal 2 (or Terminal 3) to Sanyuanqiao Station, transfer to Metro Line 10 (Outer Loop) to Zhichun Road Station, then transfer to Metro Line 13 (toward Dongzhimen) and get off at Qinghe Station (approximately 70 minutes total). From there, walk to Qinghe Railway Station to take a train to Badaling Great Wall Station.

Beijing Daxing Airport: Take the Daxing Airport Express to Caoqiao Station, transfer to Metro Line 19 (toward Mudanyuan) to Mudanyuan Station, then transfer to Metro Line 10 (Outer Loop) to Zhichun Road Station, transfer to Metro Line 13 (toward Dongzhimen) and get off at Qinghe Station (approximately 75 minutes total). From there, walk to Qinghe Railway Station to take a train to Badaling Great Wall Station.
